About the publication - Technical Excursions: Field Guide for the First Relief Classification Meeting - Paraná state plateaus

The IBGE has joined efforts with the Brazilian Geological Service - SGB, the Brazilian Geomorphology Union - UGB and researchers from several teaching institutions in the country, aiming at the elaboration of a Brazilian Relief Classification System - SBCR. This initiative is intended to create a taxonomy of relief all over the National Territory, allowing not only the construction of a common language, but also the standardization, structuring and establishment of criteria for representation, considering the different subareas of Geomorphology, the different scales and the diversity of Brazilian relief.   

With this release, the IBGE presents the Field Guide for the First Relief Classification Meeting, whose path, traveled by national experts who had taken part in the construction of the SBCR and by invited participants, encompassed five stops, spread along 340 km, with a focus on the plateaus of Paraná state. The publication discusses the concept of this class of relief, presents a brief contextualization of its use and occupation in historical times, notably in the areas traveled, describes the path and the selected stops and shares discussions, debates and reflections arising during the trip that support classifications and subdivisions of plateau reliefs in Paraná.  As a complement, the authors make considerations about the event held on March 1 and 2, and the relief mapping prospects in the country, according to the SBCR.

This publication, which is also available on the IBGE website, is expected to promote the SBCR ad its advances, thus fostering the engagement of researchers of Brazilian relief.
