About - 1999-2006
Given the importance of Consumer Price Indexes - CPIs in short-term economic monitoring, mainly in the sub-regional integration process, the institutions of MERCOSUL member countries and Chile, with the technical counseling of the European Union and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean - CEPAL, developed a methodological study to guide the construction, in each country, of the Harmonized Consumer Price Indexes - HCPIs.
As a sequence to the project of index harmonization, first released in 2005, covering the period 1999-2004, this publication presents the procedures and concepts applied in the calculation of the HCPIs, as well as the time series of the corresponding indexes of the period 1999-2006. These results, besides contributing to the comparative analysis of inflation among countries, constitute an important landmark in the consolidation of an integrated statistical system for the countries of the region.
