Geographic School Atlas

About the publication - 2ª edition

With the release of the Geographic School Atlas – Primary School, for grades between 6th to 9th - 2ndedition, the IBGE provides the student audience with a wide range of information that is required for understanding the space surrounding us and the territorial, environmental, demographic and socioeconomic aspects that characterize the dynamic of that space construction by persons, in Brazil and in other countries.

In approximately 180 maps, the Atlas provides geographical, cartographic and statistical data about subject matters related with the environment, natural resources, population characteristics, urbanization, economic activities, communication and transportation networks, among other information that allows the student not only to comprehend our social reality, but also to compare it with that of other nations that compose the current sociopolitical and economic scenario. Whenever it is applicable, the maps are complemented with explanatory texts on the concepts portrayed in them, which either delve into aspects of their content or increase reading possibilities.

The current Atlas takes into account the National Curriculum Parameters (PCN), of the Ministry of Education (MEC), as it enables students to observe, get to know, understand and think about the characteristics of the place where they live, besides other landscapes and distant geographical spaces.

  • Amendments in the 9th edition of the Geographic School Atlas

    Description:
    The IBGE identified the need to amend pages 16, 28, 31, 54, 97, 105, 110, 111 and 115 of the publication, according to errata that can be accessed here.

    Actions: The amendments have already been incorporated into the webiste of the product, available on https://atlasescolar.ibge.gov.br.

  • Calendar error in the release date of the Geographic School Atlas

    Published date: 18/03/2024

    Description: An error, identified by the IBGE, due to  the non-compliance with the minimum period of 30 days that should precede the announcement of the Geographic School Atlas (9th edition) release date. The book will be released on April 9, 2024. 

    Actions: The date of release was posted on March 18, 2024.

What is the Geographic School Atlas?

The Geographic School Atlas brings together in the same volume the production of geographic, cartographic, and statistical information, especially aimed at students, providing a set of information that is indispensable for the study and analysis of the political, environmental and economic dimensions of Brazil and other countries. It is also expected to arouse interest of young audiences in the comprehension of our reality and of other diverse and dynamic realities that form the sociopolitical and economic scenario of the world nowadays. The publication considers the Ministry of Education guidelines, as it enables students to observe, get to know, understand and explore the characteristics of the place where they live as well as of landscapes and distant geographical spaces.
