Description

It consists of a study on the dynamics of infant mortality in Brazil , based on analyses of social and regional inequalities. The concentration of production means and the technical progress limited to part of the national territory account for the diverse status of infant mortality in the country.

Making a comparison between the Northeast and Southeast Regions, the study highlights the relationships existing among different processes of economic and social development and different levels and trends of infant mortality. It also highlights, as an important element for the reduction of this indicator in the country, the improvement of social conditions of families from the Northeast of Brazil.
