In the matter of the changes in the export data of September, published by the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (SECEX), the IBGE explains that, in the release of the fourth quarter of 2019, on March 4, 2020, the third quarter results will be reviewed. It should be noted that the quarterly estimates are based, mainly, on the performance of the economic activities. The quarterly estimates also hold short-term information, and those will not suffer significant changes.
In the statistical systems all over the world, data review is part of the process. The previous quarters’ reviews are established in the methodology of the Quarterly Accounts, as quoted below: “In case of relevant changes, the Quarterly Accounts from the immediately previous quarter can be reviewed in the next release, replacing the former projections with the attained data and the introduction of some data review provided by short-term surveys from the IBGE or other agencies.”- Methodological Reports Series, Volume 28, Quarterly National Accounts, year of reference 2010, 3rd edition.
The incorporation of the export review has not happened yet, since it one was published on the eve of the release of the Quarterly National Accounts - third quarter.
