On November 25, IBGE will release the Complete Life Tables for Brazil 2021

On November 25 at 10 AM, the IBGE will release the Complete Life Tables for Brazil 2021, providing the mortality indicators that would be expected in case Brazil did not suffer the COVID-19 pandemic.

Complying with Presidential Decree no. 3,266, of November 29, 1999, the IBGE publishes the Life Tables in the Official Gazette since that year. The Life Tables are calculated from population projections, based on data from the Population Censuses. Adopted by the IBGE since 1991, this methodology is recommended by international cooperation organizations and it is recognized by users of our demographic data, including public offices from the three government spheres and major academic institutions in Brazil.

After the release of the results of each Population Census, the IBGE develops new projected life tables. The last tables were built and projected from the 2010 data, year of the last census operation in Brazil. Likewise, a new set of life tables will be created after the publication of the results of the 2022 Population Census, when the IBGE will have a more precise estimate of the population exposed to the risk of dying and of the deaths registered in the last decade.
