Note on the National Budget for 2021
The voting session on Brazil's annual budget for 2021, conducted by the Joint Budget Committee (CMO, in Portuguese) and the National Congress, reached an end yesterday, March 25th.
The session ratified the budget cut on the Population Census as proposed by the CommitteeRapporteur . That cut represents a reduction by almost 90% of the expected budget submitted in August 2020 - a total R$ 2 billion according to the Annual Budget Law.
Considering the current decision, the IBGE will request from the Ministry of Economy proper guidance on procedures for the census operation, which, as established by law 8,184/1991, must be conducted every ten years.
