Aiming at meeting the demands on the meaning of the generic terms registered in the systematic mapping of Brazil and its regionais perticularities, as well as assisting the standardization of the collection of geographical names, the IBGE introduces, in this second volume, corresponding to the 1:1 000 000 scale, the terms and concepts existing in the Continuous Cartographic Base of Brazil to the Millionth - BCIM (version 2018), adding up to 187 entries. The next volumes will cover the terms used in the other scales of this mapping – 1:250,000, 1:100,000, 1:50,000 and 1:25,000.

The publication gathers the generic terms existing in the National Territory only, being complemented by a list of the terms related to the classification of localities established by the IBGE, but are not generic terms.
