Finish of the Transition Period for the Adoption of SIRGAS2000 in Brazil

Description

According to the Decree-Law no. 243, of February 28, 1967, the definition, implementation and maintenance of the Brazilian Geodetic System - SGB is the responsibility of the IBGE, as well as the establishment of the specifications and general rules for geodetic surveys.

To develop the geodetic activities, a geodetic system that serves as the reference for positioning in the national territory is required. The reference system is defined from the adoption of a geometric figure representing the terrestrial surface, positioned in the space, which allows the unique localization of each point of the surface based on their tri-dimensional coordinates. The materialization of this system is made through the implementation of gauge stations adequately distributed along the country, comprising an infrastructure of reference, from which the new positioning is made.
