Standardization of Geodetic Markers

Description

Instructions for the monumentalization of markers and pillars of the stations comprising the Brazilian Geodetic System (SGB).

About the publication - Standardization of Geodetic Markers

Geodetic stations are characterized by a small concrete monument—known as a "marker"—featuring a small metal plate embedded in its top, or simply by a metal plate set into a base (such as a monument or the step of a public building) that ensures its preservation. Following the station's construction, IBGE teams conduct measurements to gather data, which is then made freely available to the public through the IBGE portal.

This information is considered highly important, as it is used for: rural and urban land registration; the implementation and maintenance of national logistics infrastructure (road, rail, waterway, and air networks); electric power generation and distribution; basic sanitation; communications; national security; and the monitoring of the Earth's crust and global changes.

Consequently, it is necessary to establish standardized specifications for these markers to facilitate their construction—not only by the IBGE but also by users who request that the IBGE incorporate their stations into the Brazilian Geodetic System (SGB).
