Structuring Vectors of the Socioeconomic Dimension of the São Francisco River Basin | 2009
It is with great pleasure that the IBGE supports the Ecological-Economic Macrozoning of the São Francisco River Basin, coordinated by the Secretariat of Wild-Harvesting and Sustainable Rural Development of the Ministry of the Environment. The IBGE provides a wide view of the region by means of thematic maps and analyses.
As an active member of the EEZ Brazil, the IBGE contributes to the publication in order to further exploit the knowledge on the socioeconomic changes occurred in the river basin, accomplishing, thus, its institutional mission of portraying the several land portions that comprise the Brazilian Federation.
Among the issues in Brazil's political agenda nowadays, the spatial changes in the São Francisco River Basin have overlapped themes either on environmental diversity and water resources or those around citizenship of those still put aside in society, lacking survival conditions.
Finally, with this product, we hope to fulfill our targets and face the enormous challenge of getting to know and help develop the São Francisco River basin so that it can improve the quality of life of the populations around it through the sustainable exploitation of its natural resources.
