The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) will release the 2022 Population Census: Labor and Income and Commuting to Work and to School on October 9th, at 10:00 am, Brasília time, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). The event will be broadcast on the IBGE website, in the IBGE digital section.
The publication will present an initial overview of the mobility characteristics of people who need to leave their homes to work or study. For the first time, the 2022 Census will provide information on the means of transportation used by people to work.
The publication presents information that provides insight into the main characteristics of working residents: occupational status, employment category, and details of occupations and economic activities. Information on income from work and other sources that enable the construction of indicators of inequality, such as the Gini coefficient, will also be released.
In the set of tables published in the IBGE Automatic Retrieval System (Sidra), available on the IBGE website, the indicators for commuting to educational institutions are detailed for Brazil, Major Regions, Federation Units, Urban Concentrations, Intermediate Geographic Regions, Immediate Geographic Regions, and Municipalities. They are also disaggregated by race or color, income, sex, and level of schooling. The same disaggregations, at the same territorial levels, apply to commuting to work.
The release will also be broadcast on the Institute's social media channels. The results can be accessed on the IBGE website and on platforms such as SIDRA and Census Overview, and on the latter, they can also be viewed via interactive maps.
