PNS - National Survey of Health

About - 2019 Life cycles

Produced in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the National Survey of Health - PNS was carried out for the first time in 2013, aiming at improving the scope of the Health Supplements of the National Sample Household Survey - PNAD, investigated by the IBGE since 2008.

This publication presents a whole new set of results of the PNS 2019 for Brazil, its Major Regions and Federation Units, by providing, once more, several perspectives of analysis, thus improving knowledge as intended from this survey.

The first approach, Persons with disabilities, focuses on the population aged 2 years of age and over, identified as such considering the level of difficulty to perform some activities, the use of devices to deal with such limitations, the way to reach some resources, and the access to regular rehabilitation. The second approach, Fatherhood and pre-natal care for the partner, deals with the conscious and active participation of men aged 15 years of age and over in actions of planned reproduction, besides indicators about fertility, considering the answers given by the group. The topic Health of persons aged 60 years of age and overdealt with in the third approach, shows some of the facets of aging, such as functional limitations, the regular use of medication, the occurrence of evengts such as cataract and fall, and vaccination against the flu. The fourth approach, Women’s healthencompassed several topics related to women aged 15 years of age and over, such as the taking Pap smear tests, occurrence of histerectomy, menarche and menopause, reproductive planning and contraceptive methods. The fourth approach discusses Pre-natal care, covering many aspects related to the topic, for example, access to the female groups aged 15 years of age and over to tis type of service, appointments and procedures, and aspects of delivery. Finally, the topic Health of children under 2 years of age analyzes information about their eating habits, neonatal tests before the baby is released from the hospital, and immunization with vaccines.

The publication presents technical notes about the main methodological aspects of the survey and a glossary with the terms and concepts considered relevant to the understanding of results.

The IBGE website makes available tables with indicators and their respective confidence intervals and absolute figures and variation coefficients of estimates, disaggregate by sex and age groups, level of schooling, color or race, employment status, for Brazil, Major Regions and Federation Units.

Information resulting from PNS 2019 provide valuable material for the formulation of public policies in the field of promotion, surveillance and attention to health by SUS, thus facilitating the supply and monitoring of indicators.

• 15 domicílios por UPA: Rondônia, Acre, Amazonas, Pará, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Alagoas, Sergipe, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Goiás e Distrito Federal.

During the generation of the microdata file of persons, available on the IBGE portal, information rejected in the data edit of a specific part of a selected resident was unduly included in 12 records.
