Summary of Indicators 2009
The National Household Sample Survey – PNAD investigates every year and on a continuous basis, overall population characteristics, education, labor, income and housing, among others, for different periods of time according to the need of information about the country, as well as characteristics about migration, fertility, nuptiality, health, food security, and other topics. These statistics have represented, throughout the 42 years of this survey, important instruments for the formulation, validation and evaluation of policies directed at the socioeconomic development and improvement of life conditions in Brazil.
With this publication, IBGE makes available a summary of PNAD indicators in several periods. Besides socioeconomic indicators for Brazil and its Major Regions and basic indicators for the Federation Units, relative to 2008 and 2009, the publication also brings income series for the period 2004 - 2009, reflecting the complete geographic coverage of the country reached by the survey in 2004, as well as the series for 1999 – 2009, the statistics of which for 2004 to 2009 had been built for the geographic coverage in effect until 2003. These results encompass the basic topics investigated – Overall data; Migration; Education; Labor; Families; Households; Income and Internet Access and possession of mobile telephone – and are accompanied by commentaries. The analytical texts are based on indicators for the period 2004 - 2009, years when the survey was conducted all over the National Territory, also including some commentaries since 1992 with harmonized data, that is, with a geographic coverage that excludes the rural area of the states of Rondônia, Acre, Amazonas, Roraima, Pará and Amapá.
The publication also includes technical notes which highlight concepts and definitions used in the survey, considerations of the methodological nature that show the main aspects of its historical evolution, and the sampling plan. Also, in the end of the publication, there is a list with all the topics investigated by the survey since 1992, relative to the following characteristics: housing units; overall data about household members; migration; education; the work of children aged 5 to 9; labor and fertility.
The CD-ROM which comes enclosed with this Summary brings, besides the aforementioned series of indicators for years 1999 to 2009, the content of both printed volumes; the complete PNAD table plan for the period 2004 – 2009; a group of tables about child labor, as a complement to the topic labor; and tabulated information of 2009 for all levels of survey coverage – Brazil, Major Regions, Federation Units and nine Metropolitan Areas. In addition to this group of information, there are variation coefficients associated to all the estimates in the table of results released in this publication, as well as the collection devices applied.
Brazil Volume 2009
With this publication IBGE makes available results for the PNAD edition of year 2009, and presents a detailed group of information about the Brazilian population, in its multiple aspects. The publication also includes technical notes in which are highlighted the concepts and definitions used in the survey, considerations of methodological nature that lead to the knowledge of the main aspects of its historical evolution, and the sampling plan.
