National Household Sample Survey

Complementary Aspects of Education, Domestic Work and Child Labor 2006

The National Household Sample Survey – PNAD 2006 investigates, as complementary topics resulting from a partnership with the Ministry of Social Development and Combat to Hunger, access to income transfers from social programs – which had a specific publication – as well as complementary aspects of education of children and teenagers aged 0 to 17, labor and domestic work among the group aged between 5 and 17.

With this release, IBGE presents the results obtained in the survey of the aforementioned topics, thus providing a more encompassing view of the socio-economic situation of children and teenagers aged 5 to 17, in Brazil, its Major Regions and Federation Units. The analysis of results, illustrated with tables and graphs, highlights the most relevant items in this investigation, mainly concerning the complementation of some schooling aspects which are regularly investigated by PNAD, and also concerning the occurrence of child labor in work activities and domestic work.

The publication also includes the sampling plan of the survey, as well as a glossary containing the terms and concepts considered essential for the understanding of results. The CD-ROM which comes enclosed with the publication contains, besides information in the printed volume, variation coefficients associated to estimates presented in the table of results.

These data - also available on the IBGE web site - represent a valuable source of information about the profile of children and teenagers in the country.
