Demographic Trends: An analysis of the population based on the results of the Population Censuses of 1940 and 2000
The Population Census of 1940 was the first one to be conducted by IBGE. It was considered a reference for its innovative character in the investigation of themes, relevant until the present days, and for the adoption of updated technical principles and methodological criteria, which raise the Brazilian Censuses to a relevant position in the American continent. This study is aimed at making a comparative and trend analysis of the population, based on the results of the survey of the modern decennial censuses in Brazil and of the 2000 Population Census.
The information is presented in tables, graphs and maps for the country, Major Regions and Federation Units. It covers some of the common socioeconomic and population characteristics (i.e. sex, age, color, religion, nationality, education, marriage and groups of economic activities) between both surveys, available through the spatial state mesh of the last survey. The analytical commentaries highlight the changes and trends evident in the period.
This group of information is also available in the CDROM which comes enclosed with the publication.
This publication is an invaluable data source for researchers of the Brazilian demographic situation.
