The survey covers the vital events occurred in the country, assembling the total registries of live births, deaths, stillbirths, and marriages, informed by the civil register office of natural persons, besides information on separations and divorces granted by family, justice and civil courts, and notary's offices.
The publication brings information on several levels of spatial distribution, the definition of features investigated in the survey and analyses of the varied aspects of the mentioned events. It focuses results illustrating the decline of under-registration of births in Brazil, with the progressive coverage improvement in some areas of the country between 2000 a 2010, considering the convergence with data obtained by the 2010 Population Census. A highlight in this edition is the growth of divorces and the reduction of lawsuits and separation deeds due to the new legislation, which reduced the previous periods for dissolution claims and the bureaucratic requirements.
This set of data is available on the CD-ROM enclosed with the publication and on IBGE website, whose SIDRA database contains statistics on vital events, marriages, separations and divorces registered since 1984.
The present data are an important instrument to trace the Brazilian population evolution, to monitor the exercise of citizenship and to implement public policies, especially in the health field.
