Civil Registry Statistics 2007
It presents information relative to vital facts occurred in the country, encompassing the overall number of birth registers of infants born alive, of deaths and fetal deaths, as well information relative to marriages informed by Natural Persons Register Offices and information about judicial separations and divorces reported by Family Courts or Civil Courts.
Besides the methodological changes which have been introduced in the survey aiming at the improvement of statistics, especially those of births and deaths, the highlight of this edition is the inclusion of registers of separations and divorces in Notary Offices. These establishments have been IBGE informants since 2007, due to the law which came into effect in the same year, allowing spouses without minor or disabled children to end their marriage through a title. This way, the statistics of consensual separations and divorces reproduce the data generated by sentences as well as administrative registers attested by notaries
The publication presents data for different spatial levels, the definition of characteristics investigated in the survey and an analysis of aspects selected from investigated variables, being the highlight, in this case, the low levels of coverage of births and deaths of children under one year of age, still seen in some areas of the country, especially in the North and Northeast Regions.
This group of data is available on the CD-ROM which comes enclosed with the publication and on the IBGE web site, of which SIDRA database contains the time series of vital statistics surveyed since 1984.
Civil register statistics constitute an important instrument for the monitoring of the Brazilian population evolution, for the exercise of citizenship and for the implementation of public policies, especially those aimed at the field of public health.
