A Panorama of Health in Brazil - Access and utilization of services, health conditions, risk factors and health protection 2008
In this publication IBGE presents the results of the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) 2008 supplementary health analysis, conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Health.
A brief description of the survey is presented, as well as the sample plan, the descriptive analysis of the results obtained for the whole country, and a glossary with terms and concepts that are relevant to the understanding of these results. Whenever possible, commentaries are provided from a historical perspective, adding comparisons with the previous surveys, carried out in 2003 and 1998. A collection of tables with information concerning the registration of households at the Family Health Program; access and utilization of health services; conduction of women's screening tests, surgical removal of the uterus; physical mobility, and risk factors and population health protection (physical activity, tobacco use, traffic and violence), among other characteristics, are the highlights of this release.
The CD-ROM which comes enclosed with the publication contains all the information of the printed volume, an additional set of tables showing several aspects investigated in this supplementary survey, and also a new version table plan of the Supplementary Health Survey 2003, which was designed to produce results incorporating the 2008 Review on the Population Projections and Estimates, among other complementary information.
By making this database available, the Ministry of Health and IBGE considerably expand knowledge about the Brazilian population health characteristics, offering executive and legislative authorities, professionals and researchers, Health Councils and other agents interested in the theme, a broad set of information necessary to formulate, monitor and assess health-related policies.
This group of data is also available at IBGE's website on the Internet.
