Child Labor 2001

In this publication, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE shows the results of the survey on Child Labor, which was conducted as a supplement to the National Household Sample Survey – PNAD 2001.

The survey, which has deepened the investigation of life conditions of children between 5 and 17 years of age, especially in relation to education and labor, was conducted in partnership with the International Labor Organization – ILO – through the Statistical Information and Monitoring Programme on Child Labour – SIMPOC.

This volume brings a short description of the nature of the survey, additional comments and a group of tables and results for Brazil , its Major Regions and Federative Units.

With this publication, IBGE increases the amount of information available about the conditions of labor and education of children and teenagers. With these results, the executive and legislative powers and the organizations interested in this issue will have a large number of indicators to help the creation, monitoring and evaluation of policies aimed at the population between 5 and 17 years of age in Brazil.
