Consumer Expenditure Survey - POF 2002-2003

Per capita household food acquisition - Brazil and Major Regions

The Consumer Expenditure Survey 2002-2003 aimed at supplying information about the composition of household expenditure, from the investigation of the consumption habits, expenses allocation and distribution of incomes, according to the characteristics of households and persons. POF also investigated the auto perception of life conditions of the Brazilian population.

Following the publication of information of the survey, IBGE presents, in this publication, the results relative to the quantity of food and beverage acquired per year by the families for the consumption in the household, by different geographical details, classes of income and ways of acquisition, which constitute important reference for the development of surveys about poverty, food and nutritional security, availability of food for consumption, among others. The concepts and definitions of the variables investigated by the survey are also presented, the procedures used in the collection and dealing of information, as well as the description of the methodological model applied for the calculus of estimates of per capita acquired quantities.

The set of this information, available in the CD-ROM enclosed with the publication, reveals, in details, the food conditions of the population resident in all National Territory, by geographical regions and urban or rural areas.
