The Monthly Employment Survey - PME, a monthly household survey on manpower and income, conducted, in 1996, the supplementary survey Education and Labor. The survey investigated if, at the time, residents aged 20 years and over had finished any type of technical-professional course at high-school level.
This survey defines a technical-professional course as the one which provides a certificate also valid as a high-school diploma. Courses completed abroad are also considered when equivalent to high school level in Brazil. The technical-professional courses for which a high-school diploma is an entrance requirement are not considered herein.
The other concepts investigated in the supplementary survey are expressed by means of opinion items as clearly shown in the respective tabulations.
Most of the items included in this survey allow multiple answers; therefore, the lines for total tabulations do not correspond to the sum of the parts.
The supplementary survey questionnaire was administered in June 1996, in all the households which, in April 1996, participated in the PME sample.
