Summary of Social Indicators 2006

Summary of Social Indicators 2006

It groups indicators of the Brazilian social reality, encompassing information about demographic aspects, education, labor and income, households, families and specific population groups – children, youngsters and teenagers – among other aspects, and also brings brief comments about the characteristics related to the topics selected, observed at several geographic and population levels in the country.

The indicators are presented as tables and graphs for Brazil , Major Regions and Federative Units and, in some cases, also for Metropolitan Areas. They are mainly elaborated based on the results of the National Household Sample Survey, which, in 2004, expanded its coverage for all the Brazilian territory, and now includes the rural areas of Rondônia, Acre , Amazonas, Roraima, Pará and Amapá.

The publication also presents a glossary with relevant terms and concepts to the understanding of the results.

All the information is also available in the CDROM included in the publication.

The elaboration and systematization of indicators are in accordance with international recommendations and contribute to the understanding of changes in the demographic, social and economic profile of the country, making it possible to monitor social policies and the dissemination of relevant information to the Brazilian society.
