Summary of Social Indicators 2004

It includes a set of indicators about the Brazilian social reality, comprising information on education, labor and income, housing units, families, specific populational groups and child labor, among other features, followed by brief comments about the characteristics observed in different geographical and populational strata relative to these themes.

The indicators, specially elaborated from results of the National Household Sample Survey carried out in 2003, are presented in tables and graphs, for Brazil, Major Regions and Federative Units and, for some aspects, also for Metropolitan Areas. The publication presents a glossary with the terms and concepts considered important.

This information is available at IBGE website on the Internet and also on the CD-ROM enclosed with the publication, including, still, tables relative to the previous years inflated according to the National Consumer Price Index - INPC from September 2003, in such a way to allow the data comparability and update of time series.

The elaboration and systematization of these indicators answers international recommendations and contributes to understand the changes in demographic, social and economical profile, enabling the monitoring of social politics and dissemination of information relevant for all the Brazilian society.
