Health Statistics: Medical-Sanitary Assistance 2002

This survey presents the results obtained in the survey conducted in 2002, with the support of the Ministry of Health, through the Project of Support to the Reorganization of the Unified Health System – REFORSUS, and gathers a group of information related to the supply of health services in Brazil .

The publication presents data relative to the number of health establishments, by administrative level, functioning status, category and type of service offered; services rendered by type of financing agent (SUS, private and insurance); employed persons; beds existing in establishments with hospitalization; volume of hospitalization; besides information about medical equipment in conditions to be used in the establishments investigated, by Major Region, Federative Units and Capitals. It also includes data about medical and hospital equipment in the county and time series of some of the main variables of the survey, such as number of existing health establishments and beds, for the period 1976 to 19990, 1992, 1999 and 2002.

It includes and analysis of selected indicators, with graphs, maps, technical notes about the survey and a glossary with the concepts considered relevant to the understanding of the results. The publication includes a CD-ROM with the information in the printed volume, encompassing 5 560 Brazilian municipalities, and the Microdata of the survey, the questionnaires, collecting manuals and the methodology adopted.

The data released contribute to the identification of regional demands of public investments in health ad, together with other indicators, to the implementation of programs to fulfill specific needs of the sector.
