Municipal Social Indicators: an analysis of the Demographic Census 2000 sample results

This publication presents a summary of indicators of Brazil 's social and economic reality, organized hierarchically by size of the population of municipalities, for the country and its Major Regions, based on results of Demographic Census 2000 sample results.

It shows the main characteristics of the population, focusing on aspects such as sex, age, color, level of education and the participation of elderly persons in the composition of household income. The data about households encompass issues which constitute important references about the welfare and quality of life of the population, for example, household income per capita, average number of household members and sanitation conditions of housing units. The topics investigated also reveal the proportion of households facing more difficult social and economic conditions.

The aforementioned data are available in the CD-ROM which comes enclosed with the publication, which also includes indicators for the 5 560 Brazilian municipalities, by Federative Units.

O conjunto dessas informações reflete as diferentes realidades internas do País e possibilita identificar as carências existentes nos municípios, contribuindo, assim, para a formulação e o aprimoramento de políticas públicas que visem melhorar o quadro social brasileiro.
