Demographic Census 2000 : Families and Households - Sample Results


In this publication, as a sequence to the release of thematic volumes with the Demographic Census 2000 sample results, IBGE presents the main aspects of the structure of families, information about the housing conditions of the population, and the overall characteristics of household surroundings, adding, this way, new data to the group of information on these issues previously published in Demographic Census 2000: first sample results .

Concerning families, the data released herein refer to the number and the characteristics of private household dwellers, such as sex, age, position in the family, years of schooling, activities, position in the occupation and household income. The highlight, in this case, is the structure of marriages and similar unions based on the color of household heads and of their respective spouses. The data about households encompass aspects such as the presence of street light services, street paving, average number of household members, conditions of household occupation, existence of durable goods and the infra-structure of urban sanitation, among other indicators related to the suitability of household units. The publication also includes methodological notes and the concepts and definitions applied. The CD-ROM which comes enclosed with the publication contains, besides the information in the printed volume, data for the Federative Units, mesoregions, micro regions and municipalities, and the complete table plan which is the aim of the volume Demographic Census 2000: first sample results .

The results are estimates obtained by the expansion of the sample of 5 304 711 households and 20 274 412 persons, selected from all over the national territory.
