Technical Notes
The production (PIM-PF) and employment (PIMES) series work with different classifications, the former being more disaggregated in some cases. IBGE releases, for these particular cases, the series of production, employment and wages indexes under the same aggregation of activities.
PIM-PF works with 27 industrial divisions, whereas PIMES works with 18. In order to obtain 18 aggregates for the physical production, the products belonging to 16 PIM-PF activities were aggregated into 7 segments:
The construction of the index followed the rationale of the quantum indexes described under “Methodological Notes”, Monthly Survey of Industry – Physical Production – Brazil, items 1, 2, 3 and 6. The series started in 2002.
The remaining PIM-PF activities show direct correspondence with those from PIMES: mining and quarrying; tobacco; textiles; apparel and accessories; footwear and leather; wood; petroleum refinement and alcohol production; rubber and plastic products; non-metallic mineral products; basic metals; and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment. The fixed-base indexes for these divisions as well as for the overall industry and for the manufacturing industry can be obtained from SIDRA – Aggregate Database.
