Gross Domestic Product of Municipalities 2002-2005
After the conclusion of the revision and improvement of the System of National Accounts, which was implemented in 2007, IBGE, in partnership with State Statistical Organizations, State Secretariats and the Superintendence of Zona Franca de Manaus – SUFRAMA, presents in this publication the estimates for the Gross Domestic Product of Municipalities, having year 2002 as reference. The methodology and the database are in complete accordance with the new series of National and Regional Accounts, even including the results of agricultural surveys, such as the 1995-1996 Census of Agriculture, the results of economic surveys, of Construction, Trade and Services, and of population surveys, for instance, the 2002-2203 Consumer Expenditure Survey, among other IBGE surveys. The publication also brings annual data from other institutions, such as the Declaration of Economic and Tax Information of Legal Entities, obtained from the Secretariat of Federal Revenue. These estimates are also compatible with the 1.0 version of the National Classification of Economic Activities.
The publication describes the leading criteria of the new methodology, the improvements made, the main changes in the elaboration of estimates and shows the results for value added, at current prices, of Agriculture, Industry and services, and also GDP, at current prices and per capita, relative to 2002-2005. The work brings selected tables, relative to 2005, for all the Brazilian municipalities. The analysis of results, illustrated with graphs and maps, highlights some economic aspects of national and regional coverage.
The publication also includes annexes with the Gini Index of economic activity by Major Regions and federative Units, in 2005, among other data of methodological nature, and a glossary with the terms and concepts considered relevant to the understanding of results.
The methodology used in the elaboration of estimates for the GDP of municipalities is in accordance with international recommendations of the United Nations – UNO, the World Bank, the Commission of European Communities – EUROSTAT, the International Monetary Fund – IMF and the Organization for the Cooperation and Economic Development, as presented in the manual System of national accounts 1993.
The CD-ROM which comes enclosed with the publication presents, besides the information in the printed volume, the database by municipality and year.
