The Non-Profit Private Social Assistance Entities in Brazil 2006
The information about the supply of social assistance services in Brazil are few and dispersed, not existing until the moment, researches or regular surveys of national ambit which allow to identify the non-profit private entities which render these services and the conditions in which they are conducted.
To understand the basic data about the network of social assistance services carried out by these institutions and willing to help the implementation of the Single System of Social Assistance (SUAS) with information about the services rendered, IBGE, in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development and Combat against Hunger – MDS, conducted the Survey of the Non-Profit Private Social Assistance Entities. The survey was based on the Central Register of Enterprises - CEMPRE of IBGE, used to identify and quantify 33 076 entities related to the group Social Assistance. Among them, 16 089 declared themselves as social assistance service renders, encompassed by the public policy and under the responsibility of the MDS.
With this publication, IBGE presents the results of this pioneer research carried out in 2006 in all the National Territory, for the formal characterization of this important segment of the civil society.
In this work are focused the profile of entities relative to their qualification, titles and credentialing by the competent organizations; identifications of the services rendered; social assistance modalities; ambit of function; period of functioning; methodology of user services; available equipment and facilities; qualifying and level of formation of cooperators; financing; partnerships; and characterization of the target public for total Brazil, Major Regions and Federative Units. The publication includes also, technical notes with methodological information about the survey and a glossary with the terms and concepts considered relevant for the understanding of the results. The CD-ROM enclosed with the publication brings, besides the information of the printed volume, tables with other levels of disaggregation of the results and the Interviewer’s Handbook, which lists the concepts of all characteristics researched.
The statistics now published provide a valuable contribution to the governmental organizations as well as to the civil society institutions in order to have a better understanding of the profile, dimension and dynamic of the Social Assistance in the Country.
