Demography of Enterprises 2005

This publication presents the results of a study which has investigated demographic patterns of Brazilian companies, especially the creation or opening and the extinction or closing of these entities, based on information from IBGE's Central Register of Enterprises – CEMPRE, relative to year 2005.

The study analyzes the processes of entrance and exit of companies of the market, according to their size and category of activity, by Major Region, the impacts of the creation and extinction of companies on other enterprises and the number of employed persons, as well as the changes of size of units created in 1997 and which survived subsequent periods. Information is presented according to the National Classification of Economic Activities – CNAE 1.0.

The publication also presents methodological procedures used in the elaboration of the study and a glossary with the terms and concepts considered relevant to the understanding of its results.

Statistics about the survival of companies and the factors which allow the growth of these entities and their consolidation in the market are still incipient in the country. In this respect, the current study represents valuable contribution to the development and continuation of projects about this topic for governmental organizations and other institutions of society.

Data are also available in the CDROM which comes enclosed with the publication.
