Regional Accounts of Brazil - 2005-2009

IBGE, in partnership with State Statistical Organizations, State Government Departments and the Superintendence of the Manaus Free Trade Zone (SUFRAMA), makes available the Regional Accounts of Brazil 2005 to 2009, with the results of GDP – Gross Domestic Product – presented according to the production component.

This publication brings information regarding the evolution of GDP in each Federation Unit, calculated according to statistics of the annual value of production, intermediate consumption and gross value added for each economic activity, as well as indicators of growth of volume of annual production besides the respective price indexes of goods and services produced and the main inputs consumed. These data allow the estimation of annual value added at market prices, by activity, expressed at current and constant values, GDP evaluated at market prices by Federation Unit, and GDP per capita in each one of these geographic areas.

OThe commentaries presented provide a summarized view of Brazilian economy in 2009 and highlight the main regional results in segments of analysis. The first one refers to the real annual change of GDP of Federation Units, their relative participation in national GDP and the volume of value added generated by major economic activities in 2009, all indicators compared to those in the previous year. The second segment deals with the spatial concentration of economic activity, highlighting the main state and regional contributions to GDP in relation to the national averages observed in the period of 2002 to 2009. The third segment highlights the relative increase of GDP volume in each Federation Unit, having as reference the series of 2002 a 2009. It also identifies the state economic activities of utmost importance in 2009, and indicates some of the factors leading to these results. The data presented are compatible with the National Classification of Economic Activities – CNAE 1.0; the glossary at the end of the publication brings the terms and concepts considered relevant to the understanding of results.

These results, including the complete time series of Regional Accounts since 2002, are also available on the CD-ROM that comes enclosed with the publication and on the IBGE web site.

This group of accounts allows enterprises, governments and scholars to conduct analyses about the competitive capacity of state economies, through their Gross Domestic Product, and about the sector and regional composition of Gross Value Added in Brazil.

The Regional Accounts methodology and database are thoroughly integrated to the National Accounts Series. Complementary information may be found in the publication Regional Accounts of Brazil, of the Methodological Reports Series.
