Census of Agriculture 2006

Brazil, Major Regions and Federation Units

With this publication, IBGE presents the results of Census of Agriculture 2006, whose first release, preliminarily available in 2007, brought to public selected information on the economic activities performed by farmers and agriculture enterprises, in national level.

The information now presented consolidate, in a broad set of tables organized for Brazil, Major Regions and Federation Units, structural data about the agriculture sector, citing statistics about total establishments, land use, number of tractors, implements, machines and vehicles, characteristics of the establishment and of the producer, employed persons, livestock heads, vegetable and animal productions, among other aspects. Those statistics are vital to understand transformations in agriculture activities and those of the rural environment, in the different geographical spaces of the country, since the last survey conducted in 1996.

The publication, also available at IBGE website on the Internet, brings commentaries on national results, besides technical notes that describe the technology innovations introduced in this edition, the methodology reformulations implemented in its content, and the necessary conceptualizations to result comprehension, highlighting the incorporation of concepts that aimed a better capture of variables,. The enclosed CD-ROM contains, besides the information of the printed volume, the same tables available for Brazil and for each Federation Unit; tables for mesoregions, microregions and municipalities, thus providing a rich structure profile of this important Brazilian economic segment.

The results of Census of Agriculture 2006, like those of previously conducted censuses, are in accordance with recommendations and basic principles embraced by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations Organization (UNO), what permits the international comparability of those statistics.
